roadkill

I found this in the middle of a seldom-traveled road; from what's left it looks like a Northern Goshawk.

Those wings are still so beautiful. How sad for this bird. How do you think it met this fate? And what do you do? Bury it? Autopsy? Save its feathers? Leave it?

We have nighthawks that sit in the road until the last minute.

rd- I think it probably got hit by a vehicle as it was swooping across the road, but I don't know; the crows and ravens had been picking at it. I wanted to keep the wings, yes they were still beautiful, but I ended up just pulling it off to the side of the road. I wonder if anyone else noticed it. I was most impressed by the talons, so powerful looking.

FC- it seems like we only see nighthawks here when they are migrating. Interesting birds up close!

I find it so difficult to see such beautiful creatures stilled.
