in the company of swans, part 1

I am having problems uploading videos today. For now, let me tell y0u it was good. Nearly 50 trumpeter swans on a lake within ten miles of my house. Beautiful. I took tons of pictures, so beware!

Fifty? Surely you can spare a pair. I'll give you directions to my Missouri lake and you can send them along.

I find it hard to imagine WILD swans, since here they are only found in zoos and such.

Bring on the tons of pics!

I've only seen a few trumpeter swans—all in Michigan's U.P. at the refuge near Seney. They are simply amazing birds with their size and voice…I just can't imagine fifty!

How blessed you are to have them around. And hey, I don't know about anyone else, but I'm perfectly willing to OD on trumpeter swan photos—so post 'em at will!

Lynne- We took our neighbors to see the swans this morning. There weren't nearly as many but it was still quite a sight.

Pablo- I looked at their range in the bird guide, and I guess they will fly as far south as Missouri if they have to. I will try to direct them your way.

FC- I grew up never knowing wild swans. The trumpeters here are the result of a huge restoration effort, and that kind of restores my faith in the idea that humans can take care of wildlife sometimes.

Griz- Sorry, hit the "post comment" button too soon... Anyway, I think I was incredibly blessed to see so many of them there at one time. I was back to that lake twice today, and I did not see half as many as I did yesterday. Timing is everything.
