too much work!

today's lupinicity

It's crazy, I tell ya. My job is somewhat seasonal in nature, although I work full time year round, and this happens to be the busiest season. When the lakes are open and aquatic vegetation is growing, I'm there. This week I finished up a project mapping curlyleaf pondweed on a lake, spent a day on another lake inspecting individual applications for Eurasian watermilfoil control, spent a day and a half decoding my notes from the inspections, and now I'm at home preparing a talk I'm giving to a lake association tomorrow. As in, Saturday. As in, I almost NEVER work on Saturday. And I never take work home. I suppose I could have told my boss no, but then he's been giving similar presentations just about every Saturday for the last month, and performance reviews are coming up... Unfortunately, I don't get extra weekend pay. I've already taken the time off I earned from doing this.

Did I mention I don't like public speaking, although I can do a tolerable job of it when I have to?

I'll be happy when this is over. Wish me luck.

Good luck Deb! I'm sure you'll do great. Just remember- they're all sitting there in their underwear!

Lupinicity! LOVE it.

Lynne- Thanks. Although I would crack up if I pictured a typical lake home owner audience in their underwear! Or be grossed out...

I'm going to take advantage of the situation by trying to look up an old friend in the area.

Good luck!! That's the spirit! Looking up old friends is fun! It will make the working part of the day worth it. Hope you have lots of laughs with your old friend.

You'll do fine! When I give a presentation like that, I remind myself that I really DO know what I am talking about, even if I sometimes don't feel that on the inside before hand!

Remember you know more than they do.
Good luck with it!

Thanks for all the good wishes. The talk went very well, and I was impressed with the association's knowledge of lake water quality issues. The unfortunate part is, out of 500+ home and cabin owners on the two lakes, about 30 people showed up. I guess everyone else didn't want to miss a nice morning on their Jet Skis.

And, I called up my old friend, and we talked for about twenty minutes. They were busy helping some friends move, otherwise I would have stopped by for a visit. It was so great to talk with her. She even said she thought of us yesterday, on Solstice, because we used to visit each other on these long summer evenings. We lived in the same neighborhood, could see each others' houses, played music together, and even went through our first pregnancies at the same time. I had really forgotten how much that friendship meant, and I'm looking forward to keeping in touch more, and our families getting together soon!
