my lovely daughter

This is my beautiful Starflower after her Christmas piano recital this afternoon. She played wonderfully; in my (biased) ear I would rank her as one of the top performers. She did not miss a note, her timing was brilliant, and she even had some expression.

The dress is retribution for my mommy guilt over not buying her more pretty girl stuff over the years. I'm just not that good at shopping, but I promise to get better, and, when you have to drive about sixty miles to get to the shopping places, that's another factor. But she needed a pretty dress for tonight, so I drove to Wal Mart, fifteen miles the wrong way from where I work, last night and found the prettiest dress they had in her size, and some tights, shoes, necklace, and some hair clips. She was thrilled.

That is such a sweet photo!

You are so lucky that she still allows you to pick out things for her at the store. Mine either forbids it or sends me with a list of requirements:

"It can't be black or white or brown. It needs to sparkle, but only a little, and no LITTLE BABY STUFF. It needs to be pretty, and float when I spin..." etc, etc, ad nauseum.

I think you did a fabulous job, and she is a very beautiful girl!

Look at her! You can tell she feels girly.
Very sweet and hurrah for her musical talent. Such a gift.
Way to go Starflower and company!

Hey, thanks everyone, any individual response would be repetitious. I am very proud of my daughter, and I was so happy for her to look and feel pretty for her recital.

Although, Barefoot Gardener, your comment deserves a reply. Starflower can be demanding that way, especially when she decides the clothing choices she has are not acceptable for one reason or another. She freaks out about her hair, about her clothes, and she makes me late to work most days. Girls...

Girl stuff always leaves me perplexed. Girls have such weird tastes in things. I mean, she'd prefer all those things to a new vice?

Go figure.
