Welcome back

The ruby-throated hummingbirds are back! This is admittedly not the greatest photo, but I could not let the opportunity pass me by. What an amazing creation, the hummingbird. So unlikely.

There is also a pair of yellow bellied sapsuckers causing a commotion in an old aspen tree near the house. Warblers are here, I have seen a Nashville warbler and heard a black-and-white warbler. I'm sure there are more.

Hummers don't show up here for a while yet. They are really astonishing, aren't they? A couple years ago I was looking out the window and I saw what I thought was a big bumblebee, but it turned out to be a baby hummingbird! Just a blurry spot in my field of view.

BTW, we were talking to my inlaws in Northern Ontario, and there's still snow in the bush!

We had that exact feeder for a few years.

I finally saw the first hummingbird at our feeder in Kansas City today. I suppose they've been around and I simply haven't seen them.

PJ- I just love noticing things like this!

Madcapmum- Snow in the bush? Yikes, I'm shivering! We're tiptoeing by the average last frost date here, but with warmth comes rain, too much of it.

FC- Did you have that exact warp in the bottle from someone pouring boiling-hot sugar water in it?

pablo- yeah, it's always a matter of chance. This time though, I was standing ten feet away, camera in hand, when I heard the buzz of wings. It doesn't get any better than that, blog-wise!

Great photo! Ruby-throated hummers are just accidentals in Arizona, but I remember them from living back east. You have a wonderful richness of birds there - most of which I've never seen. Thanks for sharing them.

You may choose to 86 this commnet in time, but I can't help saying it...

That hummingbird feeder resembles a big bong from that angle!

Pam- I'm sure you have many birds there that don't come around here too!

Thingfish- I certainly will not 86 this comment, it's the best thing I've seen all day! In fact, you've given me an idea...I mean, they'd never suspect a "hummingbird feeder"...;)

Good to see you around here. Slow day at the morgue?
