more posts coming...soon

I have been quieter than usual on this blog lately, and I apologize for it. There are a few reasons, including:

Spring is in the air, and I want to be out experiencing it. Heard my first sandhill cranes today!

I am uncomfortable with doing more than a quick post from work lately...I'm sure there's already a file on me...

I am on Facebook now, which makes it easier for me to write a quick "what's on my mind" there rather than write a coherent blog post here about every little thing that happens. I think it's a win win situation; I get the instant gratification, this blog gets the stuff I've actually taken time to think about. Don't worry, I still enjoy all of your blogs, even if you're not my Facebook friend. :)

Our home computer, a monstrously slow beast, is still in the cabin so I have to slog through the mud to see the "low disk space" alert that pops up every minute. I've worked on the disk space, but I think it comes down to the fact this thing has a small brain to begin with. The computer, not me. :)

By the time I get to the cabin, I don't feel like typing out a thoughtfully long blog post and fighting to upload pictures.

The last couple of reasons will soon change. The Hermit and I, after much discussion, have decided to buy a new 'puter. There's a local business ten miles away that puts together custom systems at a reasonable price, and we'd rather give them our business than buy something on the Internet. It will be ready on Friday, and we will set it up in the new house. One less reason to go to the cabin, although I still have my seed starting shelf in here. I think with the computer in the house I will be more inclined to sit down in the evening, maybe even morning, and compose a blog post or two.

A new computer will be nice especially if you don't have to dash to the cabin to use it.

I've been a little slow in blogging lately too.

Congrats on a new computer Deb! Now that our weather is getting nicer, I'm going to have to cut back on the time I spend in front of mine every day.

I think we all are feeling the need to get outside now Deb. Congrats on getting a new computer!

All valid reasons, Deb, though surely you needn't have apologized to us. :)

I am a "blog dinosaur," I guess. I'm not on facebook or twitter (I actually really don't like either of them if I'm honest.) and I have increasingly seen more and more folks moving away from their blogs, posting less often...trading this thoughtful (if sometimes much more "labor intensive" I'll admit) medium for the quick and (I hate to say it) somewhat more shallow medium of facebook and twitter.

I do sometimes think that I'll be left behind in blogland when everyone goes to live in the facebook/twitter world.

Well, never mind cranky old me talking. :)

I'm happy to read when you post.
Peace

Lynne- And not to spend my time on the computer cussing!

RuthieJ- Yes, I'm sure the computer will be less of a priority, but it will be convenient when I want to say something.

Jayne- It's spring fever!

Forest Wisdom- I admit I did have the same apprehensions about Facebook for a long time, and wondered if I had any real use for it. But everyone had a Facebook group for this or that, and even regular blog readers who weren't into blogging were there. So I reluctantly signed up, and since then I have reconnected with two of my best high school friends and enjoyed interacting in a more immediate way than blogging. It's not for everyone, but I guess communication is evolving...

Cindy- Facebook is useful for those sorts of fun things! :)

FC- Ours is about that same age, and feeling it, although surprisingly enough we do have DSL here.

Fine, Deb—leave us in the lurch, waiting breathless for you to post on this old fashioned blog. Go have your fun on Facebook. See if we care…

Well, actually we do care. And we want you to be thoughtful and write wise, considered pieces. But we also want to hear about you going to that little house down the path at 4:30 a.m. and hearing a saw whet owl while you were…well, never mind. Anyway, you don't have to be too thoughtful on our account. Upgrade your technology. Give up the old ways for speed and space…we'll not only forgive you, but we'll be waiting right here for your posts. (We wouldn't mind if you hurried it up a bit, though.)

Spring's coming is no excuse! :-)

Grizzled, Grizzled, Grizzled,
You are eloquent and hilarious. Or at least I think so. :)

And you said what I was really trying to say so much better than I did....

Forest, my friend—I appreciate your backup…but there are times when I think I probably ought not drink that fourteenth cup of coffee.

(See, Deb, if you don't post here, we'll post for you…Wouldn't want that, right?)

All right guys, if you're going to chat take it to Facebook okay? ;)

No really, you've made me think about the value of my occasional little exuberant posts to this blog. I realize Sand Creek Almanac would soon become way too dry and unlike myself if I were to only post pieces that I had written, edited, rewritten, etc.

Excuse me. Starflower just heard some sandhill cranes calling from the swamp, their likely nesting place. Gotta go, but I'll post about it here first I promise!
