Love old barns and this one is a beauty. I'll bet it was really pretty in it's day.

I adore old barns and tractors. I'd love to have either one. ;)

Gorgeous photo. I love old barns too, that one is really something.

I really like the foreground too. The long grass and the scattered snow.... really sums up this winter, this time of year.

Do you suppose there is an old, gray mare in there?

Is the roundedness a Scandinavian thing? It just makes me think Swede.
It looks cavernous.

I loved this old barn the moment I saw it; I even subjected my kids to one of Mom's "birding moments" when I stop the car and focus in with binoculars or take a picture. This particular barn is about ten miles straight west of my house, less than a mile east of I35 after it crosses the Kettle River, before you see the sod fields on the west side.

lynne- at one time this county had a real agricultural economy going. I bet there was one great family living off the land there, for a while.

Liz- we do have a 1940's Farmall H. We don't use it a whole lot, but it filled my raised beds with aged horse manure last year!

dharma bum- that's why I included the foreground in the photo. It looks so desolate, so abandoned, like what this barn is.

pablo- if there is, she ain't what she used to be...just like this barn.

FC- I hadn't thought that this barn looked particularly round, but you're right, it might be a Scandinavian thing. Which is what I love about going around and documenting local farm architecture...down south of here you find the brick barns and bigger houses, which signify German influence. My family was Scandinavian, so of course they would have nothing to do with them Germans. :) And don't even mention those Polacks...those darn Chimelewskis...;) He plays a mean accordion...

What a beautiful piece of architecture that is, Deb. Can you imagine how glorious it was in its heyday?
