The famous Hermit, and his famous dog

I didn't want to let the cat out of the bag, but Sunday morning The Hermit had a visit with Doug Smith, outdoors reporter for the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Today there was a full page feature article on The Hermit, including pictures with Hope the hyper idiot Brittany whom I guess is a pretty good bird dog after all. The article focuses on The Hermit's work as a ruffed grouse biologist, and can be found here. Congratulations Hermit!

Hey, pretty good article! I wish more people would understand the benefits of a well-managed all-age forest. It's good that he's trying to educate the public.

Ironically, the article is paired with an land-auction ad from "Cabela's Trophy Properties." I guess the supply of trophy wives is running out, so all the rich guys are now locking up trophy properties.

Lynne- There was an even better picture in the printed paper.

LauraH- While what he says in the article is pretty much limited to the position of the group he works for, I think there are some good points brought up there.

Heidi- I hope he didn't scare Loren too much, asking for eggs so early in the morning! We realized we were out, and I had promised I'd make scones! I promise, our own chickens will be laying by November. :)

Jayne- It's nice to see some recognition for a job well done. :)

MojoMan- At first I thought I'd get all kinds of negative comments from people all for old growth forests. But we kind of live at the other end, where our county manages most of its tax forfeited lands on a 30 year aspen rotation. No shortage of grouse land here. Now to just find the balance...

Barefoot- I have tried to not make The Hermit's career too public, because my opinions do not always mesh with RGS's. But I am happy to see this article, and the reporter was a really nice guy.

That is sooo cool! It was especially fun to read, having just met him. He obviously knows and cares a great deal for a healthy ecosystem and for thoughtful forest management. A great article. Congrats!

BY- did you ever think your brother would make headlines? :)

By the way, we just heard some exciting news last night from Tom & Abbi. I'm sure you'll find out soon...

dharma bum- Unfortunately he doesn't get to use his knowledge on the job as much as he would like; they tap into him for fund raising and grant research a lot these days. But it was nice to see this article.

I have faith in both of you. I always thought he would make it to dinner at the White House to express his environmental stance. I dream big! Tom -- wow when we all become grands and greats?
