crystalline H2O

It barely got above freezing yesterday. Last night the temperature was in the teens.

I am so not ready for this!

Well, at least I have water in my pond, unlike some folks.

We're all braced for the winter here. Lots of ice in the wheelbarrow, and I'm sure if I ventured over to the town pond it would be iced over, too. But today is about 10C! We're practically basking!

Oh, no, not ice, not yet.

I do not like this October, 2006 in Minnesota. We don't need two November's in a row.

So that's what they're supposed to look like.

Madcap- could you be so kind as to send some of that air this way? We've been freezing here!

Tracy- Two Novembers, that is certainly what it feels like. And November is such a dreary month to begin with...

FC- Like I told Pablo this morning, I'd send some extra water down your way if I could. I'm surprised; this has been a drought year, but the water level never goes down more than a foot. Just lucky, I guess.

Deb, I've been meaning to ask you if you had your pond dug in for you, or if it was already there when you bought the land? And do you find it presents a mosquito problem?

Madcap- we had it dug the first spring we lived here. We needed gravel to build up the driveway, and that part of the land was at one time a gravel pit, so we figured why haul in gravel? I'd like to dig out even more some day.

It doesn't present any more of a mosquito problem than what we had before; a significant part of our land is wetlands, so the pond really added no more mosquito rearing habitat. I suppose it might make a difference if there were no standing water to begin with.
