everything back to normal

And yes, this is normal around here but I thought it was a little bit surreal. The Barbie swim party.

Low temperature got down to 39 last night, proving once again we are in a cold spot. And I say hooray! We had two nights where the nighttime lows only reached the upper sixties or seventies, and that was enough for me. 24 hour sweating may be natural, but I'd rather be in a climate where I can avoid it. This place seems to fit the bill for me. It's all that buried glacial supercooled ice block...

I am proud to say I ate overwhelmingly locally and organically today! Breakfast...well I don't do breakfast much and I am entitled to my two cups of fair trade, organically grown coffee per day, but I did eat one hard boiled egg, from our own chickens, mid morning. Lunch was a hand picked salad, lots of fresh greens and a few herbs from the garden, augmented by two more hard boiled eggs and Seeds of Change organic vinaigrette dressing. Delightful! And for dinner, stir fry of fresh sugar snap peas, broccoli (first head from the garden!), mizuna, Daikon radish, green onion, garlic, and some julienned organic carrots thrown in. The rice was Lundberg organic brown basmati, the only "distance" indulgence. As far as I know, you can't grow rice any closer to Minnesota, except for wild rice which really isn't rice at all. All in all, very satisfying, and of note I have not consumed a single wheat product today and I feel great. Not jumping to conclusions, just keeping a food diary here.

The night temperature is dipping nicely again as I write. More good sleeping weather. I love this place.

Yeah, that's pretty surreal alright. Amputee Barbie Skinny-Dippin' Set!

What's mizuma? Congrats on your local lunching! We've been grazing our peas so heavily that there certainly wouldn't ever be enough at one time for a meal.

I did a stirfry last night too, but not one so locally produced.
Actually during the summer, my goal is to eat as much as possible of one particular faraway food...those wonderful fresh cherries that just won't grow in FL. I love em.

Has Barbie lost weight?

hi,
Stumbled across your blog tonight 10.45pm BST here in Sweltering England! 36C today in Derbyshire, last time it was that temp here, man wasn't born! LOL!

I have not updated my blog for some time, hoping to rectify that this weekend. (In between packing my stuff up, as I'm moving in a few weeks time to Leicestershire).

I envy your cooler nights! BUT, ours will come soon enough, usually as the kids break up for the summer holidays, which is this Friday!
Have you seen 'Allotment Lady' blog? Think you will find it inspiring, this lady has 48 hours in her day, I think she has found a way to slow the day time down to get 2hrs in 1! LOL!

Nice to chat with you!

Kind regards,
Sandie

39 degrees sounds like heaven! We just got over one of the hottest weeks that I have spent in all my time in Maine.

Your food sounds great, but those barbies look to be having a bad day.

Surreal is right!

Your fresh from the garden food sounds great. I'm dying for some tomatoes - I have all this basil and only a few little sungold cherry tomatoes.

madcap- Mizuna is an Oriental green, in the mustard family I think, with pointy, divided leaves. It has a mild spicy taste, but the best thing is it grows like crazy without much maintenance. Unlike my fussy lettuce, which somehow thinks it needs water once in a while!

FC- I more than made up for it today, the working group I was meeting with decided to head for the buffet at the casino (where normally I wouldn't be caught dead) for lunch. I went back for second helpings of Kung Pao chicken, but it was okay, I skipped dessert.

And yes, I think Barbie has an eating disorder.

sandie's patch- thanks for stopping by! I'll have to check out your blog soon--good luck on the move!

sandy- My sugar snap peas liked it as well, responding with instantaneous new growth and more flowers! And yes, those Barbies have had better days.

laura- desperately waiting for tomatoes here too...but I think I am addicted to the smell of fresh basil!
