mother-daughter haircut day

SORRY- PHOTO REMOVED DUE TO UNAUTHORIZED REBLOGGING BY SOME REALLY, REALLY SICK PERSON.

Sad, isn't it.

Starflower and I had a "girls morning" at the beauty salon. Her 'do was more dramatic than mine; she had a good six inches taken off and I think the results are fantastic. Hopefully there will be no more morning fights with tangles. Mine was more of a ten-minute trim than anything, but it helped. I had thought about making an appointment to get some coloring done, some lightening and highlights, because my hair used to be closer to the color of Starflower's, even a dark blonde. But then I thought of how in college I so wanted my hair to be the color it is now, a dark brown with reddish tones here and there, and then I thought if I take the color plunge then I'd have commited myself to bimonthly "touch up" jobs and regular chameleon-like changes. That just ain't me. So I'll go with what Nature gave me, even the occasional silver streak.

Starflower sometimes wishes she had blue eyes like Mom, but I think her eyes are absolutely gorgeous. I think I'll have to get out the shotgun when she's a teenager and the boys start coming around.

And wow. I didn't realize what a week and a half out on the lake did to my face. I still have fish-belly legs, but what a tan!

No way! Don't dye your hair!

Starflower may not have the same colour eyes, but she looks like her mama - lovely.

I agree with madcapmum. Stick with your natural color. Everything else about you is nature. (And I think it is a good color for you!!!)

My mother (now in her 70s) still dyes her hair black. I wonder what it would look like if she grew it out.

As for those teenage boys - I've raised three of them and the only advice I can give you is to befriend them and engage them in conversation. Let them know that you are as much of your daughter's life as they are. Then they'll understand that they might be messing with a bigger package than they thought. Or they might respect you and respect her as a result.

But I ramble on.

What Pablo said...and a shotgun.

Lovely lady photo and I think her brown eyes are absolutely lovely.

Your sparkling blue ones are okay too :)

madcap- Thank you. Her first grade teacher always says we look like twins.

pablo- ramble on all you want! She's a pretty independent girl and I hope when she comes of age she'll be very selective. :)

FC- I guess pablo does not have a monopoly on making me blush. :)

Stick with your natural color. My grandmother used to tell us all the time that we were given the color that best suited us.
I was in my twenties - I kid you not - before I knew that my mother's hair wasn't red. How I missed that all those years I don't know.
Having had a teenage beauty keep the big stick handy - you have a heart breaker there.

My daughter is just into her teens and just had her long hair cut to frame her face and just got a new rash of comments about how she looks like me but also just realized (due to sudden attention from boys) what I've known for quite a while - she is a beauty! Scary stuff.

And that is a lovely rich brown. Mine has quite a bit of silver in it. I used to catch my stylist trying to nip the silver strands out - I told him, "No way, I earned those!"

Your natural hair color is beautiful. I wouldn't change a thing. I let myself go gray, and I started graying very early. It's a tough decision, but I'm always glad I made it. I had my hair cut to shoulder length when I retired. (It was down to my waist when I worked!) I just started letting it grow long again. Long, gray hair-- nice and witchy!

Starflower has beautiful eyes. You bet your are going to need a shotgun. It's never the color, it's how deep you can look into them.

It's unanimous Deb, we all like you just how you are!

You and Starflower are both lovely, and yes the shotgun will come in handy one day I'm sure.

How's the rash on the hand?

Jim- it's mostly cleared up now, but the other night I replaced it with an inch-long burn from the wood stove door. Guess I forgot that the inside of the door gets pretty hot!
