I was on a tiny bog lake miles from anywhere. First there were no clouds. Then the clouds looked beautiful, as in the photo. Then they looked ominous. One flash of lightning was enough to send us off the lake for half an hour, waiting out a small storm. Then the sun came out again.
There were little storms like that all afternoon, the kind where you can see sunshine and blue sky while standing in the midst of a downpour of rain and hail. Things have settled down for the evening, at least I think.

We had bumpy weather here too.
Some of he prettiest clouds too.
When recalling the beauty of Minnesota to friends who've never been there, I always mention the interesting cloud formations. Guess I was always looking up, even when things were looking down. :-)

Lovely. You had me at "I was on a tiny bog lake miles from anywhere."
With the recent weather that has been rolling through Minnesota the past few days (with some blessed rain accompanying it!) we were just talking about how good it was to finally have some "interesting" skies again. I do love watching the ever-changing clouds of a Minnesota summer.
Oh Deb, I love that picture! I hope you don't mind, but I copied it to paste on my desktop because that's probably the closest I'm going to get to a northern Minnesota lake for the rest of the summer!
Lovely sky!
Lynne- as soon as we arrived back at our "base camp" at Hinckley, it was pouring rain and even pea sized hail. I got soaked getting out of the truck to put the boat away.
Kathy- I can tell from your comments you must have loved it here in Minnesota. :)
Dharma Bum- I think I owe some of the inspiration for the way this post was written to your "June Haibun" series. When I re-read it I thought "Whoa, I left out a lot of the details (about what I was doing at that little bog lake)". But then I thought, this post was about my experience with the clouds. It did not need the details.
RuthieJ- I am honored to have this photo on your desktop! Actually, let me know if you want a higher resolution copy of it. :) I was out doing one of those vegetation surveys you learned about.
FC- Thanks. The sky was being a drama queen.
Amazing shot!
Beautiful shot. We had some amazing clouds down our way this week, too. I heard someone say recently that in terms of dramatic scenery, Minnesota's clouds are our mountains.
