Deb- What do you think of the one in the bottom picture, facing left, airborne with the stick over its neck? It looks kind of light? Blow it up at home and see what you think.
Lynne- The brown blob on the step was interesting, to say the least.
Those redpolls are amazing. I'm sure the seeds you put out at Hasty last weekend are gone! Thanks for pointing out that one...I don't know, it looks light but it may be kind of streaky under the tail. I'm still not confident picking out hoarys from the flock; I haven't seen any that stand out here, but you never know!
Them Redpolls can sure eat. I have to fill my two Nyger feeders every day since them empty them down to the first hole. Had another flock join up with the one that was here so I'm probably up to over 300 now.
Jayne- $15 for a ten pound (I think) bag of seed that will last me less than a week. But I can't find it in my heart to cut them off! :)
Richard- I don't know how many birds have been around here, but I'm guessing it's well over a hundred. I wonder if they're fattening up for their migration northward.
Forest Wisdom- Emerson...Thoreau...homebrew... We are indeed kindred spirits!
Actually, I have not brewed in way too long. In fact, that very bottle may have been two years old. I think it was Northern Brewer's porter kit. A good brew, but a bit too heavy for my tastes most of the time.
Now you have me thinking I may have to brew again, soon! Are you an all grain brewer, or a malt extract brewing wimp like me? :)
We will definitely have to get together and share a home brew and some good conversation some day. :)
This is what happens when you leave a bottle of home brew out on the step overnight in 0 degree weather. I sure hate to waste good beer like that!

WOW on the Redpolls! I'm headed off the Fleet Farm to get more seed. I sure am going through alot this winter!

Wow Deb--they emptied that thistle sock and half the tube feeder in less than a day!! How many do you think you have hanging around there?
