Status of The Garden, Early August

Sugar snap peas in August? Well, it's been a strange year. These are the products of what is left of the pea vines after Ms. Doe got after them. I replanted yesterday, thinking optimistically as ever, that I may get a fall crop in. I will take steps to decrease Ms. Doe's interest in garden greenery.

What is that? A micro melon? This is my first year's attempt at growing melons, and I am encouraged that I even see flowers and mini Blacktail Mountain watermelons.

Doesn't this tomato bed look great? Of course by this time of year it should have fruit in various stages of ripening. But this is the unsung Coldest Spot in Minnesota after all...

And the dill. Best crop ever, and I didn't even plant it! I keep hoping my miserable frost bitten pickling cukes will catch up to it. By the way, I love the repetitiveness in the dill head and dill flowerettes. Garden fireworks.

Everything does look great! If it makes you feel better, I just plucked my first sugar snap pea tonight also, ate it while watching the chickens haha ;) We live at the opposite end of the state, but have had nights in the 40/50's and highs in the 60/70s........which is insane for July!! I'm hoping August will be warmer, for both of our gardens :)

Yesterday, on the road, I passed a semitruck that said, "Sand Creek Transport" Minnesota.

I had to smile.

Your garden looks better than mine did when ... it was alive.

I'm growing the Blacktail Mountain Watermelons too. For so long, I didn't think I would get them, now the vines are running like crazy with lots of baby melons. Here's hoping we don't get an early frost!

The Sprouts are furious about the weather this year. We still have NO ripe tomatoes! Beans are going gangbusters, but the Sprouts always love their 'maters straight from the garden. They have been asking about them since....oh, May sometime.

I caught Mr. Bunny Rabbit munching on what's left of my peas last night -- I think I heard him laughing as he scooted out underneath the fence I've got around the garden. :-/
