I had three different temperature readings at my home this morning:
The Subarumometer read -22. (This was at 6:45 when I drove the kids out to meet the school bus, only to find no bus. No school. Just about every school in the state is closed. I'll spare you my rant about that. I said enough last night.)
The thermometer by the new house read -27.
The thermometer by the cabin read -35.
How cold was it? Which of these three thermometers is correct?
My answer: all of them. and none of them. It's in the eye of the beholder.

I'm thankful Robbinsdale school district NEVER closes!
My kids have a different opinion...
It's so cold your code is showing... can you see it?
Lynne- I remember that. From a kid's perspective, of course!
FC- Code fixed. Note to self: When composing posts in Word, always save as plain text before cutting and pasting.
It didn't show up in Firefox, so at first I thought "Is FC messing with me?" Then I opened it up in Explorer. Thanks for catching that!
Well, my kids' school never closes due to the cold. ;-)
I've got two kids skating on the pond and one walking to the post office, with firm instructions to warm up before she comes home. They are always so excited to go out in the cold! Little Minnesotans at heart.
Makes my measly little one degree here by the river seem like a heat wave.
Hey, did no school for the kids mean a no work day for mom? Or Dad? Bet not! That's what you need to establish—let the kids off, let me off. Bet you'd not have to worry about driving down to the road in minus-whatever temperatures and not finding a bus then!
When it's that cold, does 10 degrees one way or the other make a difference? Can we even tell?
...if so I can't immagine why-
We've all got time enough to cry.
As I was walking down the street one day.....
Deb-I couldn't figure out how that Chicago song got in my head all day today until I came back here! LOL! THANKS ALOT!!
Heidi- I knew your school would be up and running! I have to figure out how to clear our skating pond. Maybe this weekend, when it's warm.
Grizzled- No, I could have taken a vacation day but I'm guarding my time accumulation lately. But my husband works at home, for the most part, so they were supervised.
Wren- After about 20 below, no, I don't think it makes a difference. It's cold, that's all.
Lynne- I was a big fan of Chicago when I was in high school. Of course, that was the band of choice for band geeks like me. :)
I forgot to say, our school district is starting two hours late tomorrow. I think that is a reasonable choice, seeing as how it is supposed to warm up a bit.
Hi Deb, it is weird how variable either the thermometers or the microclimates are. During this recent cold spell, our most local Weather Underground site, just a few blocks from our house, was consistently about 7-10 degrees warmer than the official weather.com temperature for our area, and my husband, driving to work, hit pockets where his car thermometer registered about 7 degrees colder than *that*.
It was nice to see it so much warmer yesterday, but the wind was blowing so freakin' hard it almost took my hair off. Still, we could be outside with gloves off and face exposed without silently screaming with pain, so that was definitely an improvement.
