perfect fall day

It was beautiful here. I went for a 2.4 mile walk at noon and worked up a sweat. In case you're wondering, when I go for a walk somewhere I call up a map on my GIS (Geographic Information Software) at work and measure it down to the foot.

When I got home it was too nice to sit inside cooking yet. So we parked outside at the picnic table, watching migrant ruby crowned kinglets and some kind of thrush (Hermit? Swainsons?) work their way through the underbrush. I brought out my octave mandolin, tuned GDGD (sawmill tuning, very modal sound, not tied to any one major key) and played a few songs in the evening light while sipping a White Russian. I can't wait till I get my banjo.

Oh, that golden light of the evening during fall in Minnesota- aren't we lucky? I'd love to hear you play.

I'm heading up to Hasty Brook sometime this morning (Fri). I've still got your phone #'s and I'll call you this evening to set up our meeting time tomorrow morning!
I'm stopping at Walmart on the way up for popcorn- I'll pick some up for you too.

How are your shins today? Always wear good shoes to walk. Part of my relapse was caused by inadvertently (and gradually)injuring my knees which took forever to heal. The other part was sheer laziness!

My husband is a bass player (electric and acoustic)and looks forward to reports on your tunings. Thanks for the tips.

What sorta GIS you use?

I don't remember if we've talked about this before, but I'm a GIS tech in the real world.

Lynne- by the time you read this, we will have already seen each other!

Denise- Shins are feeling better, but I didn't get to walk today because it was raining. I have been wearing a pair of New Balance trail runners; usually they are very good but this pair doesn't seem to have as much support.

I need to get up to date and learn how to make and post a video of myself playing.

Dan- Now I know whom to ask questions! We use ArcView around here; I have 3.3, but some of the others have the latest version. It can be a real pain sometimes...

Cool. I learned on AV 3.x, but we're using 9.2 now and I might have a hard time recalling the Olden Days...

And yes, by all means, make a video of you playing that octave mando. Maybe it could help sell the family on OUR need for one...
