the bunnies are here

I'm too tired to post much tonight, but I had to get a picture of the kids and their new pets. We spent the day building an outdoor bunny cage, then went to the fair to pick up the wascal wabbits. While at the fair I got to see the tail end of a performance by Minnesota bluegrass group Monroe Crossing. I wish I had seen more; they put on a great show and I ended up buying one of their CD's.

It was a cool weekend, with highs barely topping 60, overcast skies, and occasional misty rain. It felt more like late September, so a big pot of beef vegetable soup with homemade bread made a warm comforting meal both Saturday and Sunday nights. I cut the tops off the garlic, coming up with seventeen pounds total, and cut the tops off the red and yellow onions and spread them out in the new house to dry a bit for storage. I estimate maybe forty pounds. Then I dug potatoes today, and although there were a lot of tiny tubers, I ended up with 62 pounds of usable spuds. I think a good potato, onion, and garlic soup is in order! I'll post more about the potatoes later; I need to get some pictures because the eight varieties I planted all have their unique qualities.

Back to work tomorrow. Where did the weekend go?

Help me out here. Which ones are the adorable bunnies and which ones are the adorable children?

Hi Deb,
That is such a cute picture of the kids with their bunnies. We had bunnies when I was growing up, but they were outside in cages, so we didn't play with them much. I love lop-eared bunnies.

My sister's family in Atlanta had pet rabbits for years; they finally died. I like rabbits, but never considered for a pet. I'm pretty much a dog person now altho I love cats, but a cat with this dog just would not work. The 2 I had before both lived 20 years and I do miss them terribly. (The rabbits do look adorable, as do the kids)

That soup idea sounds great!

Pablo- the bunnies have the really long ears.

RuthieJ- We are enjoying the bunnies, outdoors during the day and indoors at night. We don't let them hop around the house, yet.

Momadness- I'm a cat person, but I'm coming to live with the reality that the cat population around here needs to be thinned out. I don't even like thinking about what that entails. There aren't any cat shelters around here.

FC- Three kids + three already did the math. :)

Are you talking about the potato/onion/garlic thing? Because without the garlic, that would be really Minnesotan. I don't know the exact year Minnesotans discovered garlic, but it's pretty recent. :)
