tangled up in blue

I wish I could take the credit for harvesting these, the best blueberries I have ever tasted. But the credit goes to a berry farm I just found out about, six miles away from me as the crow, or more likely and picturesquely, the raven flies. I found these at the new farmer's market in the nearest town; $2.50 per pint when I bought 8 pints. Tomorrow we'll have blueberry pancakes for breakfast, then I'll be jammin'!

I can take credit for these, however, my first ripe tomatoes of the season. These are all Sub Arctic Plenty, I think; a suitable name for this climate. I also picked two ripe Yellow Pear tomatoes, but the evidence was quickly digested. :)

Those berries look yummy. We picked 8 pounds the other day and froze most of them. What a treat they are in the middle of winter. Like your jam. A small taste of summer. Your tomatoes are quite tasty looking too. Sub-Arctic Plenty is a great name for a tomato.

Yummy, yummy photos!!!
The bears and squirrels got all of our blueberries - I don't know of a place to pick them up...
We picked our first ripe tomatoes the last day of July... Chopped them with lots of fresh basil another yummy

Those blueberries look so delicious! There are quite a few blueberry farms within an hours drive or so - your pic makes we want to go!

The tomatoes look yummy too - I've only got cherries and grapes so far. I grew yellow pears last year - wow do those plants produce! Didn't really care for the taste, though - probably why I had so many!

I wish I had known you were having blueberry pancakes this morning. I would have hopped the first flight up there and invited myself to your breakfast table!

It's neat how the blueberry harvest progresses northward as the year goes on. In April and May, it's mostly FL berries, then the Carolinas, and yesterday the pint box of beautiful blue said Canada.
Nice maters too!

I was listening to Prairie Home Companion yesterday and Garrison said he was going to broadcast from the MN state fair...maybe he'll interview the girl in the MN State Fishy Information booth.

robin andrea- I ended up putting the majority of these in the freezer. I'll do jam when I have time!

endment- so you have bear problems too?! Had a close encounter the other night, closer than I wanted to be.

LauraH- I've heard that yellow pears are a love 'em or not kind of thing. My oldest son likes them, so any fresh garden produce he'll eat is okay with me!

pablo- blueberry pancakes next Saturday?

FC- So you're buying your blueberries from Canada, while I enjoy them from six miles away...
And I think Garrison Keillor is one of the funniest people on earth. Lake Wobegon is Pure Minnesota. I've been to a few of the live shows. But I always forget to listen on Saturday evening...bad, BAD Minnesotan!!!

ggg- Yes, this time of year is too full of yummy things.

Look at those blueberries! YUM!! Your tomatoes look great too. Let me know when you make stag-ade. Maybe we can do it at the same time and have a virtual toast to being part of a great blogging community!

You know what might be fun is for us to both post a recipe with "about" stag-ade a few days before we brew and include anyone else who wants to brew and toast at the same time. :) Just a spontaneous, late night thought.
