No, we don't have mountains here, although the hill directly ahead is called Spirit Mountain. The city of Duluth, population about 86,000 and the furthest inland port on the Great Lakes, is a beautiful 50 mile drive from my house.
Looks like a pretty ride, too. How often do you go to Duluth? We drive 35 miles to the nearest shopping malls. It's not much of a "city" as cities go, but Silverdale, WA is the land of shopping malls.
RD- we make it there about once every two weeks, or sometimes more often. They have a nice downtown with some funky little shops and coffeehouses, a somewhat touristy waterfront former warehouse district, a long sandy beach, and up over the hill, away from the lake, is the shopping mall and all the big box stores and way too much traffic for me.
dragonfly- I can't believe our windshield was actually that clean, for once. The inside of the van, that's another story.

I've heard Duluth described as the western-most eastern seaport.
pablo--that about describes it. Kind of Stoic Scandinavian meets Bohemian; no surprise that Robert Zimmerman, aka Bob Dylan, was born there.
