This may have been the cutest thing I saw today. Well, after those little hooded mergansers I saw at the fish rearing ponds. And the kittens...sigh...
I got to spend a day at work cruising around the shoreline of a lake by myself in a boat. How cool is that? I certainly did not mind.
There was another adult loon, but loons are so difficult to photograph. They dive just as you get the camera ready. I was happy to get this shot.

I think I saw some loons in the lagoon in Central Park on Sunday.
Thanks for my first smile of a new day!

Sweeeet!
I'm happy you got the shot too!
Shhhh...don't tell anybody you were really goofing off...:-)
One day I WILL see a baby loon on the parent's back!
Wonderful! I know how tricky it is to get a shot of loons and other divers. I've never seen baby loons in real life, but I hope to one day...
Pablo- plenty of looneys there I'm sure.
Kathy- You're welcome!
Jayne- Amazing how those little fuzzballs can swim.
FC- Something about being in the right place in the right time...with the right eye...anyway, thanks!
Richard- That's why I love a chance to work alone! :)
Lynne- You will hate me for this, but when we lived in Stacy on a big pond (right next to the freeway, you've been by it a thousand times), I could see a loon nest out the patio door. And I think I saw the babies on the parent's back too. :)
Penelope- You will hate me for this, but I saw another loon family today, on another lake! Okay, I will never complain about my job again...
Oh Deb, that is very neat! Looks like the water was nice and calm for you too.
