cedar waxwing

Seen while fishing a secret spot this evening with a favorite fishing buddy (Joe). No fish, just tangled lines and a few nibbles. And a few good birds.

I wonder if these guys are in trouble or have just changed their route.

I used to see swarms of CW's that would descend on a hackberry or holly tree and strip it like one giant organism.

I haven't seen that in a long time and I am out there a lot.

They are such cool birds. I keep hoping they will come strip a bush for me so that I can see them again!

Lynne- it was. Heavenly.

FC- They seem to be doing just fine around here. Interesting observation...

Webb- This one and a few others did not fly away from the alder where they were perched when Joe and I came close. Perfect photo opp! Some of them were hovering and swooping over the creek to catch bugs, which I hope were mosquitoes. And if I planted a shrub that kept its berries over winter, I might even see its cousin, the Bohemian waxwing.
