nodding trillium

  1. I love these blossoms with their own umbrellas... here they are called May Apple- (Podophyllum peltatum) I don't know their common name in the rest of the country. I had never seen them until we came to New York and New England.

  4. How curious. I've never seen one before, but maybe it's because I'm not a great one for crawling around and peeping under leaves. I should find out if we have any variations of that here.

  6. I was literally crawling around peeping under leaves to get these photos, at least the one from below. I wanted to take a broader view, to show this plant in context, but the truth is these flowers are growing in a very messy part of the yard, strewn with old lumber and shingle scraps and debris from wood chopping. In other words, not a pristine forest by any means! I sometimes wonder how they persist.
