female pine grosbeak

The bright red males usually get all the attention, but isn't she pretty with her gray body and rusty head?

This photo was taken Saturday at a feeding station along Arkola Road in the Sax Zim bog.

Love this photo!

I have had only one of these this winter, a female.

Boy, I love those grosbeaks, males or females. I'd almost trade you a pileated woodpecker for a few.

I remeber where that was with the sun shining down on her. Beautiful Deb!

My dog just barfed on the floor.
I'll trade you for Sally!

MaineBirder- Thanks! Some winters, even last winter, I get a few of these at my feeders. I guess they stayed a bit further north this year.

Grizzled- They are beauties aren't they? I'd take the pileated trade, but I do have a few of them around here.

Lynne- That was where we didn't want to get back on the bus because the sun felt so good and we wanted to see the boreal chickadee!

Sally rarely barfs on the floor. Good dog. :)
